My Poppy Seed - Baby Shank 4 weeks

Yay! We are 4 weeks pregnant!!

Mommy Update:

  • Starting Pregnancy Weight: 128 lbs
  • I feel good and haven't gotten sick yet. A little nausea
  • No food cravings unless you consider chocolate chips and oranges a craving :)
  • I wish I could sleep all day everyday! I can't seem to sleep enough
  • I started a new workout routine on Monday because when I go to the gym I really over-do it. So I had to get pregnancy smart and develop a more baby safe routine.

Baby Shank Update:

  • Baby Shank is the size of a poppy seed
  • Baby is nestling into his/her new home which brought me some uncomfortable bloating, cramping, and other things  BUT that's o.k.!! Grow Baby Grow!!

Daddy Update:

  • Kale is checking in on me just about everyday via text (while I'm in class usually)
  • He has done a wonderful job of helping me out around the house with chores
  • He felt sick yesterday and I teased him that he was having sympathy sickness for me :)
  • He swears he won't get teary eyed at our first ultrasound but I think he will
  • He keeps calling the baby a she?

Our First appointment to see baby is April 25th and it's not coming fast enough for me. I can't wait to see our little one for the first time!

When Kale and I found out that we were pregnant, we had planned to give a special suprise to all of our family instead of calling them. This didn't work out. We both got extremely excited and we just couldn't keep our mouths shut long enough to create and send the suprise.

I started calling everyone. Kale called some of his family too. Then I posted on facebook because some of my friends were already teasing me about it and I just had to tell. I was hoping that everyone knew before I posted on facebook but that wasn't the case. We truly didn't want our family to find this out via facebook but life is too short to keep this kind of secret!!! ( we sincerely apologize).

Well, I continue to pray that we have a healthy and safe pregnancy. I know I am so blessed as many women are to be able to concieve and carry a baby of thier own. I have a few friends who aren't able to concieve/carry a baby and I pray for them all the time and especially now. God blessed us and we are so grateful.

Colten's Baseball Practice

Colten had his first baseball practice yesterday. He is getting better and better with the help of Kale practicing with him. This is a great experience for Colten. He got to play soccer this last fall and now he's playing baseball. He also wants to play football. We are hoping that with a little experience from each sport, he will find the one he loves and will play competitively throughout middle school and high school. GO COLTEN!!!!

This is Our New Family Blog

As I mentioned a few days ago, I converted to Blogger for our family blog. It has archives so I don't have to do so much work. It's a little easier to use as well. Hope you enjoy. I will eventually delete the shutterfly website (even though it's so pretty!!) . Love you guys!! Miss you lots!

Love Sharin and Kale

We are PREGNANT!!!

SUPRISE!!!

Yay! Baby Shank is on the way. I am 4 weeks pregnant right now. We get our first sonogram on April 25th. We are so excited. We tried to get the good news out together but I just couldn't keep my mouth shut!!

Since the sonogram was about a month away when I found out, I went ahead and made a drop in visit with my general doctor to at least confirm the pregnancy and ask a few questions. She confirmed the pregnancy and gave me some medication and much needed advice. We got to talk about a few things and she said my due date is December 05, 2011. So we get to be blessed with a new baby for Christmas!! Baby Shank, just like the boys, will have his/her own little label. So when you just want an update on how the baby is doing just click on Baby Shank under Labels.

I will do as much updating as I can. Pregnancy kicked in for me this morning. I got up with Kale around 5 this morning and I could smell everything. I kept thinking something was stinky. He would say, no? I don't smell anything. I think I developed "SUPERNOSE" overnight. I felt a little sick this morning but it went away when I ate some oatmeal with Fiber. LOL. I am really excited about our pregnancy and can't wait to see Baby for the first time on the sonogram!!

February 23, 2011

Kale and I passed out Home Study. We weren't worried about that anyways. I also had an appointment with our attorney today and received some great news! We got a letter from the biological father basically stating that he consents to the adoption if we will waive all past, present, and future child support in his behalf. So, we did. I am so excited. We will have a court hearing here soon and will sign all necessary paperwork to change Tyler's last name to SHANK!!!! I will post when this happens but as far as I am concerned this case is basically closed. Thank you for your support and prayers. Tyler is the one who will benefit for a lifetime. Kale will have a little boy with his last name. And all together we can have a happy little boy who never has to  doubt who loves him.

February 15, 2011

Goodness. Talk about being a little nervous. The Home Study lady came tonight. She asked us some weird questions but everything went well. She is going to recommend the adoption. I guess her opinion matters in the courts. But, everything went well.  I am still counting the days and next week we should know something. I hope it will be good news.

Thank you very much for leaving me little messages. I think Kale and I both need to hear these things to keep us strong. Nothing has happened yet to upset us but we need to be strong if something does come along. So Thank You Very Very Much!!!! Love you guys!!!!

February 08, 2011

Well, a lady will be coming next Tuesday, February 15, to conduct a Home Study. Basically, she will ask us certain questions, briefly view the home, and check to see how Tyler interacts with our family. I got a little excited when I got the call thinking that our case status changed in some way. I am waiting for a return phone call from my attorney hopefully around 2pm today. After the Home Study, the final report will be sent to our attorney and to the courts. Kale will have to get fingerprinted and obtain a criminal background check.  I believe all we are waiting on now is a response to our petition sent to biological father. There is only about a week and a half left until we know what is going to happen ( whether he consents or contests). I know I am counting down these days but what is a mother supposed to do? I keep praying and hoping for the best.

February 2, 2011

Well, I just received our petition for Tyler's adoption in the mail today. It was filed on January 19, 2011. Tyler's birth father has 30 days to file a motion to contest. So we are waiting to hear from our Attorney around Febuary 19th. I am praying about this. I know Kale is too. I love my little man and can't wait to call him Tyler Shank!

January 27, 2011

Kale and I recently hired an attorney to oversee the adoption of Tyler to Kale. Kale has said for a long time that he wants to adopt Tyler and now it is in the works. I couldn't be happier that I married a man who is going all the way for me. The papers were sent off to Tylers biological father about two weeks ago. We are waiting for a reply. Hopefully this case goes smoothly and his father doesn't contest. If he does, we will have to take it to court. I have been praying a lot about this and hope that we aren't drug through the mud for months. Even if we are, I believe Kale and I are in agreement that it would be worth every second. Kale has been a true "daddy" to my little man and Tyler absolutly adores Kale with all his heart. I hope we get an answer soon.

March 07, 2011 - Sneak Peak

So we finally got our pictures from JCPenney. They did a fantastic job. I am so happy with the pictures and of course my cute family!! Can't wait to get these off to everyone. I look forward to getting pictures like this done every year. And the prices weren't bad. I browsed and scored some great coupons. The lady $150.00 for the CD of our portraits in order to get the copyright for sharing them or reprinting them. I thought your so funny. What a joke. Just another way to make money from people I suppose. Enjoy!!! I can't wait to get these up on my walls!!

February 19, 2011

We finally have our very first portraits as a family. We went to JCPenney yesterday and sat through about 16 different poses. It was fun and we got some really great shots!!! I can't wait to mail everyone an 8X10 photo of us. We ordered a few other photo sheets as well of the boys and then one of Kale and I together as a couple. We also purchased a JCPenney Portrait Perks Membership to save money on future photos for us and all of our families! We will recieve the portraits on March 3 so I will mail everyone a portrait. If anyone desires any different portraits that will be up on our website, just let us know. We can go down and order them for you. We love everyone and miss you guys so much!

February 13, 2011-Tylers Room

We finally started working on Tyler's "new" room. It is looking so good. Kale is making Tyler's shelves in between working and family. I can't wait till my little man's room is done. Besides, painting is a lot of work!

January 26, 2011-Tylers Room

Under Construction!!! Tyler's room will be under construction here soon! We are painting everything and remodeling his room finally! I have looked and looked for some great ideas on decorating his room. What colors to use. A theme? And this is what i found. I am going to make the boxes and metal toy buckets. Kale will put together the shelves with his dad. Hope we can pull making our favorites look like the real thing ( the too expensive real thing)!

Here are  a few pics we used as some inspiration:

Birthday Boy Tyler- January 05, 2011

Tyler turns 5 today!! We had a small birthday for Tyler with Kale, Mommy, Colten, Papa Kurt and Nana Diana.

Mr and Mrs. Kale Shank Dec-16, 2010

As our family and closest friends already know, Kale and I have already tied the knot. Kale and I have been living together for over two years. Being that Sharin already has two children we really didn't push "the right thing to do". We thought to ourselves that the option of doing the right thing in the Lord's eyes was already out the window. Then, Kale and I decided before our wedding that we would take a preparing for marriage class through our church. During the duration of the class we learned about God's Equation for Marriage. We went through eight weeks of learning the Bible and eachother. The class sections were God's Purpose for marriage, God's Equation for Marriage, God's roles in Marriage, Roles and Responsibilities, Authentic Communication, Money, Keys to a Lifelong Marriage and the last section, title I will omit, caught us off guard. The guilt set in long before the start of this particular section. We realized that past mistakes don't have any bearing on what we do with our lives TODAY. Even if we didn't Honor the Lord in the past doesn't mean that we can't change that for ourselves now. So, we decided on a date which was December 16, 2010 and went ahead and made things right. We couldn't possibly please everyone in our family by having a small gathering or what-not and it wasn't really our goal at the time. We just wanted to get right with the Lord above. So we did. And not only did we honor him, but we also honored our parents as well. We couldn't be happier with our decision.

The Proposal - April 14, 2010

Kale text me September of 2009 to ask me if I wanted to pick out rings. I thought that he was kidding. Well, he wasn't. We went to about 5 different stores in Evansville. I finally found the ring I wanted at Droste's. Beautiful ring with diamond in the middle and two floating diamonds on either side. It was the perfect traditional past present and future engagement ring. Well, months went by and nothing. I thought to myself, I wonder if he has bought that ring yet? Few more months went by. Still no proposal. On April 14, 2010 one of the most important days of my life, I graduated a program that would change my life forever. He had a suprise for me. We drove for about 3 hours and finally arrived at West Baden Resort and Spa. I was shocked. He already had our hotel room and ad spa day for me set up. We had dinner that night out on a balcony with a PRIVATE butler and waitress. It was secluded and so romantic! We walked up to the table and there was a candle lit and a rose. He gave me a kiss and handed me the rose. I was so in love already but this was the icing on the cake! I was very hungry that night and chowed my food. I chose lamb and it was Delicious!!! Then the waitress asked me if I wanted a desert menu. I said oh yes please. Then Kale started looking a little funny. I asked him if everything was o.k. he said yes. So I continued to look at the desert menu. Then Kale reached over and took it from me. I thought how rude are you! I asked him for the menu back! I was starting to get mad. LOL. He then got up and said come look at it over here. I got up and walked over to the edge of the balcony and he put the menu down. I thought you have got to be kidding me! Is he purposely NOT wanting me to eat desert. He asked me if this was a special night? I said Yes. He said do you know that this night could get better? I said Yes? He then started to shake and got down on one knee. I was like OH MY GOD!!!! He asked me and he was shaking so bad. I said YES! Then I started laughing Hysterically and then busted out crying! I was so happy! Later he told me that when he bought the ring, he had the kids with him. He had to basically threaten them with some crazy punishment to make sure they didn't tell me! He had also hid the ring in the center console of his car. He never locks his car. I went to go somewhere in his car and the doors were locked. I looked up at him and said Why are your doors locked? You never lock your doors? He told me later that he had forgot about the ring being in the center console until after i left. He said he was sweating bullets hoping I wouldn't find the ring!!!

This is where he got down on his knee!!

And the RING!
